HeLaS3: human cervical carcinoma cells. These cells will grow attached to plastic in alpha-MEM with 10% Newborn calf serum (NCS), 1 X Pen-Strep. These cells will also grow in suspension in Joklik's MEM, 10% NCS, 1 X Pen-Strep.

MRC5: human, non-transformed, embryonal fibroblasts. They grow as a flat monolayer attached to plastic in alpha-MEM, 10% fetal bovine serum (FBS), 1 X Pen-Strep and exhibit contact inhibition.

Rat 2: thymidine kinase negative rat fibroblasts, non-transformed. They grow as a flat monolayer on plastic in alpha-MEM, 10% Calf serum, 1 X Pen- Strep.

A549: epithelial human lung carcinoma cells. Cells grow adherent in alpha-MEM with 10% NCS, 1 X Pen-Strep.

MDCK: dog kidney epithelial cells. They grow very adherent in -MEM, 10% Fetal bovine serum (FBS) 1 X Pen-Strep. They are very susceptible to mycoplasma infection and will die in a few passages once infected. Use only the treated cells and keep all reagents and media separate.

293 N3S: adenovirus transformed human kidney cells. Cells grow adherent in F11 medium with 10% FBS, 1 X Pen-Strep. Cells will also grow in suspension in Joklik's MEM, 10% FBS, 1 X Pen-Strep.

HAI: SV40 transformed human embryo kidney cells, post crisis. Grow in alpha-Mem+10%FBS+Pen Strep.

HeLa(PW): From Peter Whyte, grow attached in alpha-mem+10%NCS+PS. Split 1:5 twice a week.

Vero: African green monkey kidney cells, grow attached in alpha-mem+10%NCS+PS. Split 1:5 twice a week.

HeLa cells marked just "Hela" in the liquid N2 did not grow well on plastic, maybe adapted for spinner culture. For transfections use Hela(PW).
