Animation on the left shows the conversion of BID to tBID by caspase 8. The tbid then goes to the mitochondrial membrane where it will further recruit BAX and then continue with mitochondria outer membrane permeabilization. The red dots are the SMAC protein inside the mitochondria

Once BID is cleaved by caspase 8 to tBid, then tBid recruits BAX to the mitochondrial membrane, where Bax creates pores in the membrane. This process is called the Mitochondrial Outer Membrane Permeabilization (MOMP) which is the point of no return for the cell. Once the pores are formed, Cytochrome C (Green dots) is released
